Route 66

Route 66:

In 1926, work began on the "Mother Road” that would connect Chicago to Los Angeles. This two-lane highway stretched 2,448 miles and offered a new freedom to travel across country. For many Americans after WWII, the route symbolized a new beginning and independence; it was the path to Western promise and adventure. Later, it was immortalized in numerous movies, TV shows, and songs — painting nostalgic imagery of a wonderful era gone by. The road was decommissioned 25 years ago, yet the name will forever be an icon of the free-spirited American heart.
